Heidi is a passionate member of the equine community. She believes in constantly continuing her education to improve the efficiency and safety of her teaching. To that end she is working towards becoming a certified instructor through the UESA (United States Eventing Association) and USDF (Untied States Dressage Federation). Heidi is currently certified as a C1 traditional, C3 dressage, and HB in Pony club. She has many years of experience teaching in Pony Club and 4H with an active role in leadership. She has worked 5.5 years under top eventing and dressage trainers Ingrid George and Laura Backus as a working student/assistant instructor. She has taught camps as well as bringing up her own private students to competition level. She has assisted many different veterinarians and has an affinity towards learning everything possible about horses and how to best support them in an athletic role. Horsemanship and horse management are a big part of her program, and she firmly believes in giving the horse everything possible to help them be as comfortable and happy in their job. This transfers over to her teaching where she expects her students to be compassionate and caring towards their mounts. She believes that being able to properly care for your horse is one of the biggest and most important holes in the majority of the equine industry. A happy and healthy horse is a safer and more trusting partner. Riding, and eventing in particular, are high risk activities. While there is no eliminating risk, there can and should be minimizing of it through proper education and awareness. Riding and horse care is one of the most rewarding things a person can do as it teaches many important life skills such as responsibility, focus, self-awareness, the ability to work in a team, communication, emotional control, hard work, compassion, time and money management, and the value of volunteering, community, and friendship. Heidi has been involved at many levels in the organizing and running of competitions. She has a firm grasp on all the intricate pieces that go into running a competition and great respect and appreciation for all those who volunteer their time and resources to make them possible.
