We teach all ages, 2-88, and most levels of ability ranging from rank beginner to active competitor.
BEGINNER LESSONS
Beginner lessons are taught english or western whichever the client prefers. All beginner lessons are taught starting on the lungline and in private lessons. There is a strong emphasis on safety and horsemanship. Riders can expect to learn basic horse care and husbandry, grooming and saddling (tacking up), care for equipment, and horse safety in addition to learning how to correctly balance and effective use of independent aids. All beginner lessons start at 1.5 hours to learn horsemanship and tacking up. Next we do hour long lessons, where you need some help tacking up and untacking but can do some on your own. Once you can prepare for your lesson and care for your horse after, we move to 30 minute lessons where you come early to prepare your horse and stay after to care for them. We require an adult accompany anyone under the age of 11 if the goal is to get to 30 minute lessons as they will need assistance in getting the horse ready and taking care of them afterwards. The adult will need to learn this with their child. If you want to stick with 1.5 hour lessons, that is totally fine, no adult presence is needed!
WHAT WILL I NEED?
To participate in riding lessons, you must have closed toe shoes that have a heel. Ideally paddock boots or cowboy boots. All mounted participants of any age must where an approved (ASTM/SEI) equestrian helmet. We have a limited supply available for use on site but recommend, once it becomes apparent that the student is seriously into the sport, that clients get their own well-fitting helmets.
